Multipurpose makeup products

Understanding the basic nature of makeup products can simplify the makeup journey and make it less overwhelming.

Multipurpose makeup and skincare products are an amazing way to save space and simplify your makeup routine. For me the overwhelm is real on the daily. With 2 kids, a dog and a husband, chaos always reigns at home and for me to sit down and do a full face of makeup is just not possible.

One must realize that in makeup there are only 2-3 basic products - a cream, powder and gels and we can treat them as only that. A foundation can be used as concealer and a lip color can be used as blush and vice versa, correctors can be used as blush, bronzer and highlighter can be used as eyeshadow, the opportunities are endless.

Let's start simple, I feel eye creams are not of much use unless you are targeting puffy eyes from lack of sleep, (eye bags or dark circles, if hereditary are not going anywhere). For me all eye creams and even eye serums that I have tried give me whiteheads (milia). So I just use my regular lightweight moisturizers and take it to my under eye.

I like using Korean sunscreens for the glow I get, this also lets me skip moisturizers in the morning because these are so hydrating, but I do love an essence or hydrating toner before that.

mixing moisturizer with foundation

I always tell my clients to pick up a foundation that is medium to high coverage which then you can use it as is as a concealer and dilute it with a moisturizer to adjust the opacity to a lighter coverage or even a tinted moisturizer. Or the other way round (my favorite), use a concealer under the eyes inner corner, outer corner, blemishes, marionette lines, nose and the corners of the mouth and blend.

If the lip color is too dark to use as a blush, you can mix it in with a little bit of your foundation or concealer to tone it down and make it look like a natural flush.

Lipstick palettes

Blush stains are great for people with oily skin and can be used on the lips works really well on people who tend to have their lipstick disappear.

Some brow pencils work great as eye pencils only if you are looking for a soft eyeliner look which is easier to do on those rushed mornings, the same way eyeshadow sticks can be used as a soft eyeliner.

Once you understand the fact that makeup is just powders and creams your makeup journey can be simpler and you will not get bogged down with different labels on what product to use where So next time you’re shopping for makeup, consider opting for products that can do double or triple duty—your face, wallet, and planet will thank you!
